President Lula welcomes BYD CEO for the Americas, Stella Li

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva welcomed Stella Li, Vice Executive President of BYD and BYD CEO for the Americas, on Monday afternoon at Planalto Palace. Also present at the meeting were Chief of Staff Rui Costa, Minister of Labor and Employment Luiz Marinho, the governor of the state of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, Senator Jaques Wagner, and Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services, Márcio Elias Rosa.
President Lula was briefed on BYD's plans to produce its first vehicles in Brazil by March 2025, creating 10,000 direct jobs by the end of next year and another 20,000 by the end of 2026. “This will be the largest and most advanced electric vehicle production plant outside of China,” highlighted Li. A total of 150,000 vehicles are expected to be produced by the end of 2025, reaching 300,000 per year by the end of 2026, primarily to supply the Brazilian and South American markets.
HYBRID FLEX SYSTEM — Recently arrived from a visit to the renovation site at the Camaçari plant, in the state of Bahia, Li confirmed that she has “kept the promise” previously made to President Lula to produce the company’s first hybrid flex system in Brazil (with a motor powered by electricity, gasoline, and ethanol), a project jointly developed by 110 engineers from China and Brazil. In this regard, she informed that BYD is setting up a major technological research center in Bahia.
