In conversation with Lula, Biden confirms G20 attendance, US commitment to joining Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received a call from the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, this Thursday (November 7) evening. The conversation lasted about 30 minutes.

President Lula received President Biden’s confirmation that he will travel to Rio de Janeiro to participate in the G20 Summit. Biden also confirmed the decision of the U.S. Government to join the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. They also spoke about President Biden’s upcoming visit to Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas, before the Summit, and arranged for a bilateral meeting in Rio de Janeiro.

Lula reiterated his friendship and admiration for President Biden and highlighted the strong state of Brazil-U.S. relations in recent years. They both highlighted the importance of the bilateral initiative to promote decent work conditions globally — the Partnership for Workers' Rights — and the closeness of priorities between the two governments on promoting the energy transition. Biden praised the importance of Brazil for the preservation of tropical forests and for combating climate change.
