President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke on the phone Thursday afternoon (22) with former US President Bill Clinton, accompanied by special advisor Celso Amorim and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Laura da Rocha.

The conversation lasted about 35 minutes. Former President Clinton invited President Lula to attend an event organized by the Clinton Foundation on Climate Change (September 23 and 24), on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Clinton mentioned the progress made by Brazil in combating deforestation and in favor of the energy transition.

President Lula reiterated the government's commitment to the energy transition and the protection of forests, stating that he intends to present ambitious results for COP29 in Baku and COP30 in Belém.

Lula also congratulated the former president on his speech at the Democratic Party convention, emphasizing the importance of strengthening democracy in the face of the rise of extremism in the world.
