President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit this Friday, June 14, in the Puglia region, Italy.

During the meeting, Lula congratulated von der Leyen on her political bloc's result in European elections. As in recent talks between both leaders, Lula and Ursula once again discussed the negotiation of the agreement between the European Union and Mercosul. They also discussed the importance of female empowerment in politics.

Lula and von der Leyen have been engaged in discussions on mutual interests for their respective economic blocs since early 2023. Lula welcomed the president of the European Commission to Planalto Palace in Brasília in June 2023. They also met at the UN Climate Conference in the United Arab Emirates last December.
