The Republic of Brazil marks 200 years of independence with a series of events in Israel to celebrate the country’s innovation and culture, as well the strong ties between Brazil and Israel. The ‘Casa Brasil’ initiative will host business rounds, lectures, cultural presentations and culinary attractions as part of Brazil’s bicentennial independence celebrations. It will take place between September 4 and 9 at Hangar 11 at the Tel Aviv Port.
The initiative was launched by ApexBrasil, an agency which aims to promote Brazil's image abroad, boost exports and attract investments, and held in partnership with the Embassy of Brazil in Tel Aviv. The series of events brings together Brazilian companies to display a range of high-quality and competitive products to the Israeli market including in the food & beverage, agribusiness, home & construction, technology, electronic games, fashion, and creative economy sectors. The Brazilian Association of Furniture Industries (Abimovel) will also take part in the event. Through the Brazilian Furniture Project, around 45 pieces of furniture from 21 Brazilian industries will be displayed in the showrooms.
In addition to strengthening Brazil's image as a top touristic, cultural and competitive destination in the global market, ‘Casa Brasil’ will also include business rounds between Israeli importers and Brazilian exporters, with some of the most innovative companies represented at the event's Grand Exhibition. They will participate in face-to-face business meetings with potential Israeli buyers in order to accelerate trades and partnerships.
Brazilian exports to Israel have grown sharply in recent years. In the first half of 2022 alone, exports already reached a record figure for the entire year, at $1.1 billion USD. Currently, about 150 Israeli companies operate in Brazil, mostly in the hi-tech sector.
In addition to business roundtables and the Grand Exhibition, ‘Casa Brasil’ will also host cooking shows to showcase Brazilian cuisine, a fashion show, the Brazilian art form of Capoeira and unique Brazilian musical performances across a variety of genres including Brazilian Jazz, Bossa Nova and Samba.
On Thursday, September 8th, a special concert in celebration of 200 years of Brazilian independence will take place at the Jerusalem Theater. The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Brazilian Maestra Ligia Amadio, previously the chief conductor of the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra and of Brazil’s National Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro. The Orchestra will perform renowned pieces by Brazil's iconic composers such as Villa-Lobos, Carlos Gomes, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Luis Bonfá and more. The renowned Brazilian saxophone player Leo Gandelman will be the soloist at the concert.
Grendene, one of the largest footwear companies in Latin America, is one of the 40 Brazilian companies to take part in ‘Casa Brasil’, and kept Jewish culture and religion in mind when selecting pieces to exhibit at the exhibition. "We have great hopes of making our brand even better known than they already are in the region," said the Grendene’s trader for the Middle East, Diego Barbieri. Beachwear brand Celeste, meanwhile, is betting on Brazilianness. “We will present the Israeli public with sustainable beachwear, with a Brazilian essence," explained Juliana Spirandelli, founding partner and creative director of the brand.
Qualinova, from the smart foods sector, will also take part in the event and is bringing its flagship product - the liquid collagen shot - to Israel. "We want to show how Brazil can operate in such a competitive sector with high-quality products", said Alisson Sato, the company's CEO.
Acelera, an offshoot of GameJam+, seeks to bring the Brazilian independent game industry to Israel. "This is an opportunity for our developers to have visibility and opportunities to do business internationally," stated GameJam+'s Director of Operations, Silvani Neri.
Ambassador of Brazil to Israel, Gerson Menandro: "The Brazilian-Israeli friendship is long-standing and was strengthened by Brazil's decisive participation in the establishment of the State of Israel. Our two peoples have nurtured a close relationship over several areas, including in trade, education, politics, culture, defense, agriculture and innovation. 'Casa Brasil' celebrates this partnership in the 200 years of Brazil".
Head of Operations of the ApexBrasil Office in Israel, Felipe Campbell: "Brazil and Israel have countless opportunities to increase bilateral trade, including in sectors with higher added value, which are prioritized at 'Casa Brasil'. The action is focused on showcasing a modern and surprising Brazil in the business world, but we also seek to create the most relevant connections to generate results for Brazilian exporters," he said.
