Diplomatic/Official Visas
a) Officials on official missions to Brazil.
b) Employees of International Organizations on official mission to Brazil must request their official visa on their Organization's laissez-passer. In the event where an application is submitted without a laissez-passer, the official note requesting the visa must indicate the reason for not presenting the laissez-passer.
c) The visa request must be done by DIPLOMATIC NOTE from the government or organization that the applicant will be representing.
Note: Bearers of diplomatic and official passports traveling to Brazil for tourism do not need a visa until September 30th. From October 1st, a visa will be required for bearers of canadian passport.
2. HOW TO APPLY
a) Fill the Visa Application Form: printed receipt page of the visa request form receipt (RER) successfully submitted online and duly signed by the passport holder (or parents/legal guardian of a minor), with the photo attached in the appropriate box.
- The name MUST be the same as printed in the passport.
- The type of visa on Official Passports (green) is "OFFICIAL MISSION" and on Diplomatic Passports (red) is "DIPLOMATIC MISSION".
- Upload photo, signature and Diplomatic Note, exactly as instructed on the Web Site.
- For minors under 18 years old, Visa Application Form must be signed by both parents, in the presence of the Consular Officer, which is equivalent to the Letter of Consent. If parents can not come to the Embassy, the applicants under 18 must present a notarized Letter of Consent, signed by the parents or guardian (with proof of guardianship). Both parents must also sign the visa application form.
- It is very important to sate the parent's full names, as displayed in your birth/marriage certificate.
b) Attach one passport size photograph (2X2) onto the visa form receipt.
c) Present a Diplomatic Note from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) , Diplomatic Mission or International Organization stating the nature and duration of the mission in Brazil. If eligible, the Diplomatic Note must name the accompanying family members. For members of the family other than spouse, partner or children under the age of 21, a courtesy visa (VICOR) may be granted.
d) Hard copies of the documents listed above must be presented for verification purposes.
e) Letter of Consent (for minors under 18 years of age not travelling with both parents):
- Visa Application Form must be signed by both parents in the presence of the Consular officer which is equivalent to the Letter of Consent.
- Present the original and copy of the Birth Certificate - long form (the Embassy does not make copies).
- If parents can not present themselves to the Embassy, the applicants under 18 must present a notarized letter of consent AND RER/Receipt, signed by the parents or guardian (with proof of guardianship). If the notary public is not registered with the Embassy (see registered notaries), the notarized signature and stamp must be authenticated at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Development and Trade/Global Affairs, 111 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1N 1J1, Canada.
f) Upload all the above to this website for validation of documents. After validation, an automatic e-mail will be received with information for the drop off.
3. ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Diplomatic and Official visas are FREE OF CHARGE.
- This service is provided exclusively via the e-consular platform. Please do not send any correspondence or visit the Consulate before receiving an email validating your request and providing instructions on how to mail your request or make appointment.
- Visa applicants must upload their photograph and signature when filling out the online visa form
- Passport valid for at least 6 months and two blank pages.
- When you access the online visa application - https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br - you may receive a security warning and see the message: “untrusted connection” or “security certificate’s problem”. This occurs because the new ICP-Brasil (the security certificate) is not yet automatically recognized by some browsers. Please be advised that the website you are redirected to is a secure website. The security certificate is issued by the Brazilian company responsible for the software used by the Brazilian Government.
- The Embassy may request additional documentation if deemed necessary. The Embassy does not return any document. The Embassy does not make copies of documents.
