CONSULAR EMERGENCIES
In urgent cases involving death, hospitalization, or imprisonment of Brazilian citizens, the initial contact may be made by telephone, through the numbers +260 765 192463 (consular duty phone, 24/7) or +55 61 98260-0610 (Itamaraty duty phone, 24/7). Calls to the duty phone aim to provide initial guidance only.

Is the situation really an emergency?
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, REAL EMERGENCIES are only those that involve risk to life, safety, or human dignity of Brazilian citizens.
EMERGENCIES INCLUDE:
- police incidents;
- detentions;
- cases of human trafficking;
- cases of violence and abuse;
- natural disasters and armed conflicts;
- accidents and hospitalizations;
- deaths;
- inadmissions/deportations.

NOT EMERGENCIES:
- theft or loss of passport;
- expired travel documents: gather the required documentation for the issuance of a new passport and request a consular appointment;
- lost baggage: contact the airline directly. The Embassy of Brazil is not authorized to mediate consumer disputes between passengers and airlines;
- missed flights: contact the airline directly. The Embassy of Brazil is not authorized to mediate consumer disputes between passengers and airlines;
- denial of visas by foreign authorities: contact the foreign authority directly. The Embassy of Brazil is not authorized to request/require that third countries grant visas to Brazilian citizens;
- any other situations that do not involve imminent risk to the life or safety of a Brazilian citizen abroad.
