Family reunion (VITEM XI)
General rules:
- Based on the Interministerial Ordinance No. 12/2018 and specific instructions from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Terms and Conditions:
- VITEM XI cannot be granted when the caller is beneficiary of a visa or residence permit by family reunion or provisional residence permit, including, here, the asylum seeker.
- Temporary Visas are issued for up to 1 year and the residence period is determined by Federal Police upon registration in Brazil.
- Holders of any Temporary Visa must register with the Federal Police in Brazil within 90 days from first arrival in the country. Applicants will receive a Visa Application Form from the Embassy upon the issuance of the visa, which must be presented for such registration.

It is very important to state the parents' full names, as displayed in your birth/marriage certificate. Important: For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents. |

| 4 | Proof of relationship with the sponsor (Brazilian national or holder of the Temporary Visa): |
b) If married outside Brazil to a Brazilian national: the marriage must be registered at a Brazilian consular authority. The applicant may submit either the consular marriage certificate or, if already transcribed in Brazil, the definitive Brazilian marriage certificate. c) If married outside Brazil to a foreign national who is the beneficiary of residence permit in Brazil or who is obtaining a temporary visa (VITEM) to Brazil: the foreign marriage certificate must be legalised (get an apostille) by the competent authority in the issuing country. In case of STABLE UNION At least one of the following documents (“a” or “b”) must be presented: a) Civil partnership certificate issued by the competent authority in Slovenia. OR b) Sentence confirming the stable union (“Sentença Declaratória de União Estável”) issued by a Brazilian Family Court (“Vara de Família”) or equivalent foreign judicial authority. Please note: a deed of stable union (“Escritura Pública Declaratória de União Estável”), issued by a notary public in Brazil, will not be accepted on its own. If the applicant holds this deed (not a Family Court decision), complementary documentation will be necessary. |

Letter of consent for applicants under 18 years old |
For applicants under 18 years old: Original letter of consent signed by father and mother or legal guardian. The signatures of both parents (or of the legal guardian) must be validated by the Public Notary and then by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A model of letter of consent is available here. |
| 6 | Original identification document of the visa sponsor (Brazilian or foreign beneficiary of residence permit in Brazil) |
The following documents will be accepted: a) Original Brazilian ID card (RG) or Brazilian passport; b) The foreign national’s National Registry of Foreigners card (RNE), and passport. Please bring a photocopy of these identification cards as well, in addition to a photocopy of the relevant page(s) of the passports. The foreign passport copy should include the page containing the registration at the Brazilian Federal Police (if applicable). If the partner is in Brazil, certified copies of these documents are accepted. |
| 7 | Residence declaration | Signed statement, subject to the penalties of the law, testifying that the sponsor lives or plans to live in Brazil. The statement must be signed by the sponsor in the presence of the consular authority upon presentation of the passport or identification card or, if the sponsor is in Brazil, the document should have the signature certified by a notary public ("tabelião") in Brazil. |
| 8 | Hardcopy of the inbound ticket to Brazil |
The applicant must submit either a booking confirmation (paid ticket or e-ticket) or a booking reservation (or letter from a travel agent on the applicant's behalf), containing the complete itinerary, flight numbers and arrival / departure dates. |
| 9 | Consular Fee | VITEM XI fee: United States of America € 304.50 Payment for consular services is received through bank transfers or deposits and cash is no longer accepted. The applicant must present proof of payment at the time of attendance. The transfer must be arranged in advance and the receipt must be issued only after payment has been confirmed by the bank. Transfers will not be allowed during the service. Cell phone screenshots and receipts that show the status “in process” (v obdelavi) will not be accepted. In the field “Payment details” (namen plačila), enter the name of the applicant and the service required. Examples: John Doe – passport; José das Couves – marriage registration; Jana Vzorec – visa. Attention:
Registration with the Federal Police (DPMAF) within 90 days of arrival in Brazil. For this purpose, it is mandatory to present the VISA APPLICATION FORM (which is delivered by the Consular Section together with the passport) upon entry.
IMPORTANT: Upon registration, the foreign national must present a document containing both parents' full names (full birth or marriage certificate), which must be duly legalized/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a sworn translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil.The requirements are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Embassy may request additional information/documentation.
Remember that a visa to travel to Brazil is NOT YOUR RIGHT, and the Consular Authority reserves the right to request for additional documents not mentioned above or call for an interview, at date and time specified by the Consular Authority.
