Temporary Work Visa (VITEM V)
VI. Important information regarding the visa process
VII. Visa frequently asked questions - FAQ
I. General information
Foreign citizens travelling to Brazil under a work contract must have a Temporary Work Visa.
Note: EU nationals travelling to Brazil on tourism or business purposes (engaging in business activities such as holding meetings, participating in corporate fairs and events, seeking commercial opportunities, signing contracts), max. 90 days, no longer require a visa to enter the country.
However, those travelling to Brazil for work reasons need a temporary work visa, even if they are nationals from EU countries.
Temporary Work Visas may be issued for a maximum of 2 years.
The work visa requires prior approval of the work contract, and subsequent plublishing of the Previous Residence Authorization, by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, in Brazil, to which the Brazilian employer has to address the relevant request.
Information about the previous residence authorization process is available for Brazilian companies in Portuguese at https://portaldeimigracao.mj.gov.br/pt/informacoes-gerais
After the authorization is published in Brazil, it must still be officially communicated to the Embassy of Brazil at which the foreign citizen wish to apply for the visa.
Only after the Embassy of Brazil in Helsinki receives official notice of that previous residence authorization, from Brazil, will the Consular Section be able to process a Temporary Work Visa.
Important:
Make sure that the information on the previous residency authorization request is correct and accurate.
In case of mismatching information (for example, differences in the applicant’s name, date or place of birth, company in Brazil, etc.), a correction must be requested by the Brazilian company, in Brazil, to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
Only after we receive a new notice from the competent authorities in Brazil, showing the correction, will the visa be ready to be processed.
Under no circumstances will a visa be granted to a person with misspells in their name, birth date, birth place or mismatching work company, than those exactly mentioned in the previous residency authorization.
Note that mismatching or wrong information in the previous residency authorization unnecessarily delay the authorization notice to the Embassy and, therefore, the whole processing of the visa.
II. How to apply for a visa
A) Previous Requirements
First, it is necessary to check whether the previous residence authorization has been officially notified to the Embassy.
The Previous Residence Authorization must be requested by the company in Brazil to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
Once it is authorized and published, it must still be officially communicated to the Embassy where the foreign citizen wish to apply for the visa at.
To check if your work authorization has been received by the Embassy and therefore an application may be lodged:
1) Access the Valid Previous Residence Authorizations List
