Volunteer work - VITEM VIII

Volunteer work (VITEM VIII) 1) ELIGIBILITY:

• Foreign citizens that wish to establish temporary residence in Brazil to work as a volunteer for a Brazilian non-profit organization or one linked to a foreign government, without labour contract with Brazilian entities.
• For stays up to 90 days, please see the VIVIS section.
• Eligible dependents of a VITEM VIII holder or applicant may apply for a Temporary Visa XI - Family Reunion.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: 

• Based on Normative Resolution No. 15/2017 of the National Immigration Council. [Normative Resolution No. 28/2018 gives new reading to RN 15/2017] 
• Holders of such visa are prohibited from holding any job or receive any payment in Brazil.
• Temporary Visas are issued for up to 1 year and the residence period is determined by the Federal Police upon registration in Brazil (see below).
• Holders of any Temporary Visa must register with the Federal Police in Brazil within 90 days from first arrival in the country. Applicants will receive a Visa Application Form from the Embassy upon the issuance of the visa, which must be presented for such registration.

MANDATORY DOCUMENTATION

• VISA APPLICATION FORM: Fill out the on-line visa application form https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br
• When you open the link, press on the message "CONTINUE TO THIS WEB SITE".
• Print the ¨Visa Form Delivery Receipt¨, paste a PASSPORT SIZE COLOR photograph (3 x 4 cm) over WHITE background (snapshots and computer pictures are not accepted) and SIGN it. 

Important: For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents.

• Passport (with at least 2 unused pages).
• CV
• Certificate of Criminal Record (for applicants over 18 years);
• Letter of invitation clearly stating the expected arrival date in Brazil.
• Copy of birth certificate, clearly stating parents' full names.

Attention: Upon registration with the Federal Police (DPMAF) in Brazil, the foreign national must present a birth (or marriage) certificate containing parents' full names, which must be duly legalized/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a sworn translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil.

• For applicants/dependents under 18 years old: Original letter of consent signed by father and mother or legal guardian. The signatures of both parents (or of the legal guardian) must be validated by the Public Notary and then by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
• Notarized letter of invitation issued by Brazilian sponsoring organization attesting to the volunteer condition of the work to be performed;
• Notarized copy of Brazilian sponsoring organization by-laws;
• Notarized copy of the act in which the organization's directors were nominated or elected;
• Notarized copy of Brazilian sponsoring organization's registration at the "Conselho de Assistência Social" or certificate qualifying as an organization of public interest issued by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice;

Note: organizations linked to a foreign government do not need to present such documents.

• Notarized document indicating place where the volunteer work will be conducted and the activities to be performed by the applicant;
• Notarized written statement from Brazilian sponsoring organization guaranteeing maintenance of volunteer in Brazil and his/her repatriation at term;
• Notarized term of responsibility from Brazilian sponsoring organization guaranteeing payment of all hospital and medical expenses of applicant and his/her dependents while their stay in Brazil;
• Notarized copy of document proving that the organization is lawfully operating in Brazil;
• As applicable (for activities demanding specific knowledge or previous experience):

• Notarized document proving applicant's professional experience or qualification compatible with the activities to be performed.

Important:

• The requirements are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Embassy may request additional information/documentation.
• Remember that a visa to travel to Brazil is NOT YOUR RIGHT, and the Consular Authority reserves the right to request for additional documents not mentioned above or call for an interview, at date and time specified by the Consular Authority.
• Please note that processing time may be extended in times of heavy workload or due to unforeseen circumstances.
• General conditions are subject to change without prior notice.
• Registration with the Federal Police (DPMAF) within 90 days of arrival in Brazil. For this purpose, it is mandatory to present the VISA APPLICATION FORM (which is delivered by the Consular Section together with the passport) upon entry.
• IMPORTANT: Upon registration, the foreign national must present a document containing both parents' full names (full birth or marriage certificate), which must be duly legalized/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a sworn translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil.

The consular fee for the VITEM V varies according to the nationality of the applicant:
