Visit visa
E-Visa/Visit Visa (VIVIS) is required for citizens from Australia, Canada, and the United States who plan to visit Brazil for stays of up to 90 days, without the intention of establishing residence, for the purpose of tourism, transit , or business ( see full list below).
Brazilian citizens who hold dual citizenship are NOT eligible for any type of Brazilian visa. Brazilian citizens must travel using a valid Brazilian passport.
Visitor Visas (VIVIS) are for those travelling to Brazil for stays of up to 90 days, without the intention of establishing residence, for the purpose of:
- Tourism and Transit
- Business
- Artistic and sports activities
- Academic research, scientific cooperation, academic extension programmes, visiting professors
- Journalistic coverage, news reporting or filming
- Non-corporate events (conferences, seminars, congresses etc.)
- Study, internship
- Vessel or aircraft crew members, maritime workers
- Volunteer services

Terms and Conditions
- Based on Decree No. 9.199/2017.
- The duration of stay on a Visit Visa or a visa-free permission is limited to 90 days maximum, unless otherwise stated.
- Foreigners holding a Visit Visa or under a visa-free permission may not stay more than 180 days per year in Brazil.
- Extensions may be issued once the applicant is in Brazil, at the discretion of Brazilian immigration authorities.
- For those countries with visa-free permissions under 90 days, extensions, when applicable, are limited to the same period;
- Visitors staying for artistic, athletic, auditing or consulting activities, or as maritime crew are limited to 90 days with no extensions;
Steps to apply for a visa

- Read all the information carefully.
- Collect all necessary documentation, listed below.
- Fill out completely the online visa application form, print and sign the Visa Request Form Receipt – RER.
- Check here how to pay the visa fee.
- Upload the required documents to the E-Consular platform.
- Once the documents are approved on the E-Consular platform, you may lodge your application, in person or by mail. Mailed-in applications must include a pre-paid Express Post envelope from the Australia Post.
Visas are usually processed in 2 weeks. Please note that processing time may be extended in times of heavy workload or due to unforeseen circumstances.

VISA APPLICATIONS FOR APPLICANTS RESIDING IN FIJI, NAURU, PAPUA NEW GUINEA, SOLOMON ISLANDS, AND VANUATU
I - Documentation
In addition to the documentation listed in the general instructions (with the necessary modifications for each country), proof of legal immigration status in the country of residence must be submitted if the applicant is not a national of one of the respective countries.
II - Payment of Consular Fees
Before making the payment, applicants should contact the Embassy by email at consular.canberra@itamaraty.gov.br to obtain the bank details for the transfer.
Payment must be made via international bank transfer, in the exact amount of the applicable fees.
III - Submission of the Application
After receiving the bank details, applicants must complete the payment and submit the visa application by international courier, in accordance with the instructions provided by the Embassy of Brazil in Canberra.
All required documents, along with proof of payment, must be included in the application package, duly signed and notarized where applicable, and sent to the address indicated on the Embassy’s website.
IV - Return of Passport
The return of the passport, whether the visa is approved or not, must be arranged via international courier, at the applicant’s expense and responsibility.
The Embassy will notify the applicant by email once the visa process has been completed.
Any arrangements with courier services are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
REMARKS
- Incomplete applications will be returned at the applicant’s expense.
- It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to obtain the required documentation.
- Please note that visas are not a right, and that issuing or denying a visa is a sovereign act of Governments. It is a prerogative applied by every country and strengthened by international practice.
- The requirements are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Embassy may request additional information/documentation.
- A visa shall be denied to any foreign citizen who, when submitting his/her application, behaves in an aggressive, insulting or disrespectful way.
