Brazilian donation of vaccines to Nauru
The Brazilian government donated vaccines, on a humanitarian basis, to the government of Nauru. In total, Brazil donated 1000 doses of vaccines, of which 500 doses of the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine (DTP) and 500 doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine (MMR). The vaccines, sent by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the Ministry of Health, arrived at the international airport of Nauru on September 23. The humanitarian donation is the first cooperation initiative carried out between Brazil and Nauru.
The Brazilian Ambassador to Australia, Mauricio Carvalho Lyrio, who is cumulatively responsible for relations with Nauru, received the country's High Commissioner in Canberra, Camilla Solomon, on September 21, for a symbolic donation ceremony. According to the ambassador, the Brazilian government is pleased to have contributed to the efforts to vaccinate the population of Nauru, and to carry out the first cooperation initiative between the two countries.
Nauru has about 13,000 inhabitants and a total area of 21 square kilometers. Located in the South Pacific, the country became independent in 1968.
