Civil Registration of Birth Persons Over 18 Years of Age
Civil Registration of Birth Persons Over 18 Years of Age
The consular section may register, in Lebanon, the birth of persons over 18 years of age who are children of a Brazilian father or a Brazilian mother.
Pursuant to the Brazilian Federal Constitution, children born abroad to Brazilian citizens are Brazilian by birth, provided that their birth is registered with a Brazilian Consular Authority.
⚠️ Important: only after the consular birth registration has been completed may a Brazilian passport be issued in the name of the registered person.
Before requesting an appointment through the e-consular system, applicants must gather all required documentation for presentation to the consular section on the day of the appointment.
| Documentation | Notes |
| 1- Form | The form must be completed by the registrant, but must be signed in the presence of the consular authority on the day of the appointment. |
| 2- Original foreign birth certificate of the person being registered. | Lebanese birth certificate with certified translation into Portuguese, English, French, or Spanish. If the birth occurred outside of Lebanon, the original birth certificate issued by the country of birth must be presented. This certificate must be apostilled by the competent authority of the country of birth or, if the country is not a party to the Hague Convention, legalized at a Brazilian Consulate located in that country before consular registration is requested. |
| 3- Photo identification document for both parents |
Brazilian citizen: original and copy of a Brazilian document: • Valid Brazilian passport, or, exceptionally, an expired passport (provided it allows identification); or • Valid Brazilian identity card (RG); or • Valid national driver's license (with photo); or valid identity document issued by a regulatory body for the exercise of a profession regulated by law (CRM, CREA, OAB, etc.). Foreign citizen: original and copy of a valid document: • passport; or • Lebanese individual registration (issued within the last six months) with sworn translation into Portuguese, English, or Spanish. - If the foreign or Brazilian parent is deceased, a death certificate must be presented. In this case, the identity document may be expired. - If the Brazilian parent is deceased, prior Brazilian registration of death is mandatory. |
| 4- Marriage certificate |
If the parents are married, it is mandatory to present the Brazilian marriage certificate. If the marriage took place abroad and has not yet been registered in Brazil, it will be necessary to first register the marriage in Brazil. The Brazilian marriage registration can be done at the Embassy, by scheduling an appointment through the e-consular system. Marriage and birth registrations may be requested simultaneously. If both parents are deceased, the marriage registration can only be done in Brazil. |
| 5- Original birth certificate of the Brazilian parent. |
The Brazilian parent's birth certificate must have been issued in Brazil less than six months ago (see below for the types of certificates accepted by the consular section). If the Brazilian parent registered with the consular section, the consular birth certificate must be previously transcribed in Brazil (see more information below on transcription). - For naturalized Brazilians, a positive naturalization certificate issued less than six months ago or the decree published in the Official Gazette will be required, provided that the publication occurred within the last six months (see more information below on how to obtain the positive naturalization certificate). The following options are accepted: 1) Physical certificate with authentication seal: even with an authentication seal, this is a printed and physically signed document. Therefore, it must be presented in its original form. 2) 100% digital certificate: this is an electronically signed document that only exists in digital form (PDF file). In this case, there is no printed document; the PDF file received from the registry office is valid.
