The Honorary Consul is not a civil servant in the diplomatic service, nor a paid employee of the Brazilian State, and performs this role voluntarily. Honorary Consulates are dedicated exclusively to serving Brazilian citizens and cannot issue visas. The main purpose of honorary consular offices is to defend the rights and provide assistance, whether emergency or otherwise, to members of the Brazilian community (resident or transiting) within their jurisdiction.
