VIVIS - Visitor Visa
VIVIS - Visitor Visa
General Information
- Due to the high volume of visa requests, we kindly recommend that the visa application process be initiated at least two months prior to your intended travel date, to allow sufficient time for review and authorization.
- For most nationalities and trip purposes, a VIVIS allows a stay in Brazil of up to 90 days in one year, which may be extended for a further 90 days with an application with the Federal Police in Brazil. Swiss and EU citizens are exempt from a VIVIS but in most cases may stay 90 days every 180 days instead, with no possibility of extension. Check here (under "Do you need a Visa?") for more information;
- Paid employment prohibited. The beneficiary of a Visitor Visa may, however, receive payment from government, Brazilian employer or private entity in the form of a Per Diem (reimbursement of travel costs), as well as receive prizes, even in the form of money, for competing in sports, cultural or artistic competitions;
- As long as it is valid, the VIVIS may be used for all purposes foreseen for this kind of Visa (eg. a person who obtained a VIVIS originally for business purposes may use the same Visa for tourism, as long as the Visa is still valid). Likewise, a person whose Nationality exempts them from the VIVIS may travel to Brazil under any of the purposes for this Visa;
- Since June 17 2019, citizens from Japan are exempted from a VIVIS to enter Brazil;
- Since April 10 2025, citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States need a VIVIS to enter Brazil. They must apply for an eVisa at brazil.vfsevisa.com. It is recommended to apply 2 months before the trip to Brazil to ensure the timely reception of the eVisa;
- For filming crews: even if you do not need a VIVIS to enter Brazil, authorization from the Brazilian Film Agency (ANCINE) is still necessary. The company intending to film in Brazil must have a Brazilian co-producer, which will apply for the authorization with ANCINE.
How to apply for a Visa
Visa applications are processed exclusively by prior appointment through the e-Consular system. All required documentation must be submitted via the e-Consular platform for review and approval by the Consulate. Applications submitted by post will not be processed.
Once your application is submitted, it will be review by a consular officer. If there are any issues with the documentation, the applicant will be notified by email and asked to provide the necessary corrections or additional documents through the system.
