Annual mandatory update of CPF registration data - For foreigners only
Starting January 13th 2025, all non-Brazilian citizens who already have a CPF number and live abroad must update their CPF registration data annually. In case the holder of the CPF number does not update their data, it will be cancelled.
In order to do so, they must download the Receita Federal app on their mobile phones. Click here for IoS or Android.
1. Insert their CPF number;
2. Take a selfie holding the passport with the identification page open;
3. Fill out the information requested.
Applicants who are unable to do so due to inconsistencies on the information provided should follow these procedures:
1. Create an account on the e-consular system;
2. Fill out a request to “Update CPF registration data”, uploading the following:
2.1. Printscreen of the error message generated by the Receita Federal app;
2.2. Identification page of the passport;
Foreigners who have an identification document issued by a Mercosul member or associated country may use it until June 30th, 2025. After that date, only passports will be accepted as identification.
2.3. Picture of the applicant – the photo must have been taken recently and be developed in passport size;
2.4. Birth certificate or similar document showing parents’ names.
Birth/marriage certificates issued outside of Brazil or Canada must be the apostilled. Check here if the country that issued the certificate is a member of the Apostille Convention and what authority in that country is responsible for the apostille procedure. If issued by a country that is not part of the Apostille Convention, the certificate must be authenticated at an Embassy/Consulate of Brazil in that country. If the certificate was issued in a language different than English, Spanish and French, provide an official translation to English.
3. Once the request is approved, schedule an in-person appointment using the e-consular system. On the day of your appointment, present the original documentation listed above (2.1 to 2.4).
