VISITOR VISA
As of April, 2021, The Consulate has adopted a new procedure for receiving visa applications. All requests must be done by the e-consular system and, after validation, they must be submitted by mail only. All in person visa requests are interrupted until further notice.

Nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States will need a visitor visa to travel to Brazil as of April 10th, 2025. If you are a citizen of these countries, you can request an electronic visa (e-Visa) and there is no need to come to the Consulate to have the document issued. The e-Visa request can be made on this website: brazil.vfsevisa.com. The fee will be US$ 80.90. Processing time is approximately 5 business days.
If you hold a Canadian travel document that you intend to use for travel but you are not a Canadian citizen, a Visitor's Visa will be required.
Citizens of other nationalities, even if they are permanent residents in Canada, might need a Visitor's Visa (VIVIS) for the following activities:
a) tourist trips to Brazil, including visits to relatives or friends;
b) unpaid participation in athletic competitions or artistic events;
c) unpaid participation in scientific/academic seminars or conferences sponsored by a research or academic institution;
d) business trips, including participation in a trade/industrial exhibition;
e) transit;
f) applicants to refugee status;
g) adoption of a Brazilian child; and
h) the following purposes, provided that the stay does not exceed 90 days:
h.1) flight/ship crew members without an international crew card, except if working on a ship operating along the Brazilian coast or inland waters (in which case a Vitem V is mandatory);
h.2) scientific, technological research under an international technical cooperation program;
h.3) professorial studies/research/teaching/academic internship and/or scientific/technological activities at a university, research institution or similar organization;
h.4) exchange student program;
h.5) technical learning in the operation and/or maintenance of machinery or equipment produced in Brazil;
h.6) paid participation in athletic or performing arts event;
h.7) provision of voluntary services to a religious or social assistance entity;
h.8) health treatment; and
h.9) media coverage or filmmaking.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
a) An existing valid visitor visa can be used for any of the activities above. It's not necessary to apply for a new visa if your first trip was on business but you're returning as a tourist, for example. If your visa is expired, you must apply for a new visa.
b) Visitor visa holders are prohibited to engage in paid work in Brazil. Nevertheless, the holder of a visitor visa may receive payment from the Brazilian government/ a Brazilian employer or private entity as per diem, pro labore, lodging or subsistence allowance intended for the payment of their travel expenses; artistic pay; prizes in cash in the context of artistic, cultural or sports competitions.
c) Visitor visas are good for multiple entries, yet authorized stays are for a maximum of 90 days per visit (if necessary, an extension may be obtained with the Federal Police in Brazil and must be requested prior to the expiration of the authorized stay);
d) The person applying for a VIVIS at the Consulate of Brazil in Toronto must be a resident of its jurisdiction (Ontario - except Ottawa-, Manitoba or Nunavut). Otherwise, please consult the jurisdiction list.
REQUIREMENTS
a) FORM: one visa request form per applicant must be properly filled out online (https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/pacomPasesWebInicial.jsf ). This is a secure Brazilian Government website. There is no option for a paper application.
When filling out the online visa request form, please follow the instructions carefully and complete all fields correctly. Make sure to include all details (e.g. current address; e-mail and contact information in Brazil- it can be your hotel; document - it can be your social security or driver's license number). Only complete applications will be processed.
After filling out the visa request form online, a protocol will be generated. Print this protocol and submit it along with the following documentation:
b) PASSPORT with a minimum remaining validity of six months (it must also have at least 2 blank pages available for visa stamp);
c) One recent PHOTOGRAPH 5cmx5cm (2”x 2”) of applicant, following the specifications below. Please glue the photograph on the protocol as indicated.
The picture must be taken against a white plain background.
The applicant’s face and shoulders must be centralized on the camera and he or she must be looking at the camera.
No reflections, shadows or glares are accepted in the picture.
The length from the bottom of chin to the top of the head must be between 31 and 36mm (millimetres) in height.
The facial expression must be neutral.
The eyes must be open and clearly visible.
Glasses should not reflect any light. Neither sunglasses nor colorful frames or lenses are acceptable.
No head covering, excepting the ones used for religious reasons, as long as they still enable the perfect visibility of the applicant’s face.
Children carrying toys, with pacifier or showing the hands of the adult holding them will not be accepted.
Color photos must be of high quality and have a light background. Scanned/copied photos will not be accepted.
d) TRIP BOOKING: Signed letter by a travel agency with the booking and dates of the trip or printout of the booking with dates;
e) INVITATION LETTER: as applicable (i.e., for participation in athletic or artistic event/competition or for participation in scientific/academic seminar/conference ), copy of letter by sponsors with detailed information on the event and conditions of attendance.
f) FEE: the consular fee for a visitor visa must be paid by money order or bank draft to the order of CONSULATE GENERAL OF BRAZIL IN TORONTO. If the entire name does not fit the document, to the order of CONSULATE GENERAL OF BRAZIL will suffice.
The Visitor's Visa consular fee is CAD120.00 for most passports, except for the following countries:
f.1) Algeria - C$ 127.50
f.2) Angola - C$270.00
f.3) China - C$ 172.50
g) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS to issue a VISA FOR MINORS (applicants under 18 years of age):
g.1) visa request form signed by both parents.
g.2) authorization form to issue the visa to the minor
g.3) valid photo I.D.s of both parents
g.4) copy of child's long form birth certificate to verify parents' names
g.5) if one or both parents is/are Brazilian/s, a declaration of non-citizenhsip
g.6) signatures of both parents on the declaration of non-citizenhsip (if applicable) and the authorization form MUST be notarized.
h) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-CANADIANS
h.1) For non-Canadians returning to Canada, copy of Permanent Resident Card or valid Canadian visa allowing for re-entry into Canada;
h.2) For non-Canadians without a Permanent Resident card or valid Canadian visa, valid visa to country of final destination after trip to Brazil (this requirement does not apply to applicants returning to country of citizenship)
j) YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION
j.1) It's mandatory for travelers over 9 months of age arriving from Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
j.2) It is highly recommended to travelers going to any place in or close to a forest area or any of the folowing states: Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Bahia, Maranhão, Piauí, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul e Santa Catarina.
i) PROOF OF INCOME: a proof of income must always be provided. This may be the last 3 (three) bank or credit card statements or "Pay Stubs" from the last three months.
j.3) If you have already had a yellow fever vaccine, anytime in the past, you don't need a new dosis, according to the World Health Organization.
j.4) The requirements listed are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Consulate may request additional information/documentation.
PROCESSING TIME
The average processing time for a visa is of 10 (ten) business days, depending on demand, starting from the moment the application is accepted by the Consulate. However, we highly recommend that applicants present their request AT LEAST 20 working days prior to the intended travel date, for there are cases that require up to a month before authorization. Urgent cases will be analyzed by the Consulate and may be accommodated within its possibilities WITHOUT ANY EXTRA FEES. The Consulate will not recognize urgency when presented through a third party. The Consulate cannot recommend travel/visa services firms and makes it clear that all of them receive the same treatment by the Visa Section of this Consulate. VISA ENTRIES AND VALIDITY
The Consulate will issue visitor visas with multiple entries. The visitor visa validity varies from 90 days to 10 years according to the reciprocity policy and at the Consulate’s discretion.
