Notice nº 1/2026
The selection committee (“committee”), appointed by the Consul General of Brazil in Tokyo and in the exercise of its powers, hereby announces that applications are open for the selection process to fill one vacancy for general helper/driver, in accordance with Decree 1,570 of July 21, 1995, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ordinance of September 12, 1995, under the following terms:
1. Job and duties
The candidate selected for the general helper/driver may perform the following tasks:
- Official driver;
- Direct assistance in administrative tasks, including office and general maintenance duties;
- Assistance with consular tasks, including receiving Brazilian and Japanese visitors; and
- Performing external tasks.
2. Remuneration
The starting salary will be ¥343,213.00 (three hundred and forty-three thousand, two hundred and thirteen yen) per month, from which mandatory social security deductions will be applied as required by local legislation. Additionally, the Consulate General in Tokyo will pay its respective social security contributions (Kokumin Nenkin), health insurance (Kokumin Kenkou Hoken), unemployment insurance (Koyo Hoken), and retirement insurance (Yoro Hoken).
3. Recruitment rules
3.1 The current recruitment process does not is not meant to fill a public office or position within the Brazilian Government, as the position of general helper/driver is not not a public office or position, according to Brazilian law.
3.2 The employment relation within the scope of the contract to the position offered in this notice will be made under Japanaese labour law.
3.3 The contract duration will be 1 (one) year, renewable successively for equal and consecutive periods, unless either party objects. For the purposes of this contract, the first 3 (three) months of employment correspond to an initial paid trial period.
3.4 If the hiree's performance during the probationary period is considered unsatisfactory, at the discretion of the Consulate General, the candidate next in the final ranking will be called for hiring, also for a probationary period, under the same conditions.
3.5 The hired general helper/driver will work 40 hours per week and, exceptionally, may be called upon to work overtime or in situations of urgent service need or even emergency.
3.6 The employment contract will come into effect on June 5 , 2026. This date may be modified at the discretion of the committee.
4. Qualification
4.1 The candidate must:
- be over 18 years of age;
- have at least a diploma certifying completion of elementary school or equivalent;
- be a legal resident in Japan and have permission to engage in paid work; and
- be proficient in Japanese and another language that allows them to communicate with the permanent staff of the Consulate General (Portuguese, Spanish or English);
4.2 The candidate will be required to:
- have the ability to drive the official vehicle(s) of the Consulate General in accordance with local laws and in a manner consistent with official duties;
- possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to manage crisis situations when interacting with the public.
- Preferably, present a professional reference provided by a previous employer.
5. Application
Those interested in applying should send the attached application form, duly completed and available at the end of this notice, along with the documentation listed below, to the Selection Committee by email (processoseletivo.cgtoquio2026@gmail.com) by 11:59 PM on April 20, 2026:
- detailed curriculum vitae;
- References from previous or current employers, if any;
- Certificate of completion of elementary school or equivalent;
- copy of identity document (identity card, passport, driver's license, residence card / zairyu card);
- copy of driver's license運転免許証(うんてんめんきょしょう) and driving history certificate for the last five years (過去5年分の運転記録証明書), issued by the Japan Safe Driving Center (自動車安全運転センター);
- valid criminal record certificate issued no more than 3 months ago (to be presented by the approved candidate);
- If Brazilian or of a third-country nationality, proof of regular residency status and legal permission to engage in paid work in Japan (a visa that allows full-time work);
- a declaration that you are aware that the job you are applying for is not the same as a public job or position governed by Brazilian law (contained in the application form); and
- If Brazilian, also submit:
- voter's certificate;
- a declaration that they are not an active public servant and that they do not receive remuneration from the Brazilian government (attached to the registration form); and
- If male and under 45 years of age, a military certificate.
5.1 Documents submitted after the deadline or insufficient will not be accepted. Only candidates who submit all the documents requested in item 5 will be deemed eligible.
5.2 The Consulate General of Brazil in Tokyo will not sponsor or request any type of visa from the Japanese authorities for this job. If the candidate is not a Japanese citizen, they must already have a visa that allows full-time work in the country.
6. Recruitment process
6.1 The selection process will consist of the following phases: curriculum analysis, written test, interview and practical driving test.
6.2 For the curriculum analysis phase, the committee will select for the next phase only those candidates whose qualifications obtain a minimum score of 10 (ten) points, according to the following criteria:
- previous experience as a driver (10 points);
- prior work experience in foreign diplomatic representation (embassy, consulate or mission to an international organization) (10 points);
- References from previous employer (10 points).
6.3 Candidates deemed eligible according to item 6.2 will be summoned for a written test, in Japanese, to be held on April 27, 2026 (Monday), starting at 10:00 am, at a location to be announced.
6.4 The provisional list of candidates who passed the written exam will be published by May 1, 2026, on the website https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/consulado-toquio. Candidates deemed eligible will be contacted to participate in an interview, tentatively scheduled for May 11 and 12, 2026, at the Consulate General in Tokyo. The interview will assess oral communication skills in Portuguese, English or Spanish, and in Japanese, as well as prior professional experience. The time will be scheduled individually with each selected candidate via email.
6.5 The list of candidates approved in the interview will be published by May 15, 2026, on the website https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/consulado-toquio. Candidates deemed eligible will be contacted to participate in a practical driving test, to be held on the probable dates of May 18 and 19, 2026, at the Consulate General headquarters in Tokyo. The practical driving test will assess driving skills, technical dexterity, knowledge of Japanese traffic rules, and driving behavior. The time will be scheduled individually with each selected candidate via email.
6.5.1 If the number of candidates selected for the written test is reduced, the Consulate General may concentrate the examinations (written test, interview and practical test) on a single day.
6.6 The candidate's final grade, for classification purposes, will be the sum of the final grades from the curriculum analysis (maximum score of 30 points), the written test (maximum score of 50 points), the interview (maximum score of 50 points), and the practical driving test (maximum score of 100 points). The maximum total score, for classification purposes, will be 230 points.
6.7 The provisional overall result will be published on the website https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/consulado-toquio by May 22, 2026.
7. Exam appeals
7.1. Candidates will be allowed to request exam reviews and file an appeal without suspensive effect against the exam results. The deadline for filing appeals is two business days after the publication of the provisional results, and must be sent by email to the committee (processoseletivo.cgtoquio2026@gmail.com).
7.2. Appeals or requests for reviews submitted after the deadline or in a manner different from that stipulated in this notice will not be accepted.
7.3. The Selection Committee's final decision on appeals will be sovereign and definitive; therefore, there will be no appeal against the result of an appeal.
8. Results
8.1 The final result of the selection process will be published by May 29, 2026 on the website of the Consulate General of Brazil in Tokyo: https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/consulado-toquio.
8.2 The recruitment process is valid for 12 (twelve) months from the date of publication of the final result. During this period, approved candidates may be called upon, respecting the order of classification, should new vacancies arise in the same job category, whether on a temporary or permanent basis.
8.3 After the result is published, the candidate ranked first will be summoned by the Recruitment Committee to present themselves, within a maximum period of 5 (five) working days, with the certificate of fitness for work.
9. Contract signing
9.1 The hiring of the candidate ranked first for the initial three-month probationary period will be finalized as soon as the procedures are completed and the necessary documentation for their admission is submitted, and is conditional upon compliance with item 8.3 of this notice.
9.2 In case of withdrawal or failure to meet the deadline stipulated in item 8.3, counted from the date of notification, the candidate will be considered eliminated from the recruitment process, and another approved candidate will be called to fill the vacancy, respecting the order of classification.
10. General provisions
10.1 The application for this selection process implies knowledge and acceptance, by the candidate, of all deadlines and rules established by this notice. Candidates who make false or inaccurate statements or who do not meet the conditions required in this notice may be disqualified at any time.
10.2 Any omissions will be resolved by the Selection Committee.
