VIVIS - Visitor Visa
The visitor visa may be applied for by means of a virtual platform (e-VISA) – available at https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/ –, which operates completely online and, as a result, the submission of documents, as well as the issuance of visas are electronically processed. Please refer to the video for more information:
A visitor visa may be granted in connection with visits to Brazil of up to ninety (90) days every twelve (12) months (or 180 days, depending on your nationality), counted from the date of first entry into the country.
As a general rule, VIVIS are multiple entry and an extension for an additional period of up to ninety (90) days may be applied for before The Federal Police, in Brazil. However, please bear in mind that, as indicated in each case below, some VIVIS: (i) are not eligible for said extension by The Federal Police (“90-day only”); and/or (ii) are granted for a single entry only (“single entry”).
Any visit under a VIVIS, which does not permit any sort of residency and/or an employment relationship by its bearer in Brazil (i.e., salary/remuneration paid by a Brazilian individual or legal entity), may take place for any of the following purposes:

tourism, sightseeing, and leisure activities in general; |

business meetings, conferences and events, prospection of commercial opportunities, as well as execution of agreements; |

III |
audits or consulting (90-day only); |
|
IV |
transit; |
|
V |
artistic or sport events (90-day only); |
|
VI |
health treatment (90-day only, single entry); |
|
VII |
study, scientific research or cooperation, academic, teaching or study extensions, as well as supervised academic internship; |
|
VIII |
volunteer work; |
|
IX |
filmmaking or other media/news coverage; |
|
X |
adoption of a Brazilian minor (90-day only, single entry); |
|
XI |
work on a cruise ship off the coast of Brazil, or as airplane crew (90-day only); |
|
XII |
work as a seaman, on a continuous basis, on a foreign ship or platform operating within Brazilian territorial waters (90-day only); |
|
XIII |
to a foreign minor adopted by a Brazilian national or by a foreign national resident in Brazil, to allow for the residency application process by such minor in Brazil (90-day only, single entry); |
|
XIV |
to a foreign national who has applied for a registration of stay or an extension of stay in Brazil (90-day only, single entry); |
|
XV |
to a foreign national older than sixty (60) years or with special needs, who is entitled to residency in Brazil for an undetermined period, but whose National Migration ID (CRNM) has expired (90-day only, single entry); |
|
XVI |
to a Brazilian national travelling with a foreign Passport, on an exceptional basis (90-day only, single entry); |
|
XVII |
to a foreign national who has applied for refuge in Brazil, in accordance with CONARE Normative Resolution No. 23 (90-day only, single entry); |

XVIII |
family reunion, based on marriage by proxy (90-day only, single entry); |
|
XIX |
technical assistance or transfer of technology services under an agreement or understanding entered into by and between foreign and Brazilian legal entities. |
A - General requirements:

Tourism, sightseeing, leisure activities and transit (items I and IV)

Proof of ability to cover expenses during the intended stay in Brazil |
One of the following documents may be presented:
The document must be dated within one month from the date of application and must show an average balance of at least JPY 300,000.00. |

Documents that can confirm the means of entry and departure |
|
Business meetings and events, execution of agreements, audits, consulting and technical assistance or transfer of technology services (items II, III and XIX):
In addition to documents under “6” and “7”, above, proof of applicant’s participation in such meetings, events and/or activities, as the case may be. Said proof may be fulfilled by means of submission of a presentation letter by the applicant’s employer, either in Portuguese or in English (example).
Please make sure to include the following:

Artistic or sport events (item V):
In addition to documents under “6” and “7”, above, proof of enrollment or invitation letter from the local organization, league, entity, company or individual, as the case may be (in Portuguese or in English), containing the name of the participant, purpose of travel, as well as place and duration of stay.
Health treatment (item VI):
In addition to documents under “7”, above: (a) proof that applicant fulfills at least one of the following requirements: (i) sufficient funds to pay for the medical and general expenses during her/his stay; (ii) copy of overseas health insurance valid in Brazil that covers the treatment; (iii) certificate of health service provided for under an international agreement; or (iv) other form of reimbursement when relevant treatment is offered by the national Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS), such as pension agreements; and (b) medical prescription or report for the procedure/treatment.
Study, scientific research or academic activities (item VII):
In addition to documents under “6” and “7”, above, proof of enrollment or invitation regarding relevant activities to be carried out in Brazil (in Portuguese or in English).
Volunteer work (item VIII):
In addition to documents under “6” and “7”, above, invitation letter from the local organization, entity or company on the voluntary work to be carried out by the applicant in Brazil (in Portuguese or in English).
Filmmaking or other media/news coverage (item IX):
In addition to documents under “6” and “7”, above: (a) letter of recommendation issued by applicant’s employer, company or news agency (in Portuguese or in English), stating the applicant’s credentials, as well as describing the activities to be carried out in Brazil by same; (b) in case of filmmaking and/or the recording of motion pictures, with or without soundtrack, for commercial or advertisement purposes, authorization granted by The National Cinema Agency - ANCINE; and (c) if applicable, statement issued by the Brazilian co-producer, according to which the applicant shall only engage in any activities within aboriginal and/or environmental protection areas as per the authorizations granted by competent authorities.
