CPF
Since January 11, 2024, application forms for consular services have required the individual's Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas (CPF) number. The measure is a result of Law No. 14.534/23, which made the CPF the sole and sufficient number for identifying Brazilian citizens in public service databases.
Exceptions to this are birth and death registrations, as well as the issuing of duplicates, services for which registration with the CPF is not compulsory.
If you are a Brazilian citizen and are not yet registered with the CPF, or if your registration is irregular, you should register or regularize it as soon as possible. The procedure is easy and free and can be done online, directly with the Receita Federal.
