Passport for minors
Tutorial
- Collect all necessary documentation and complete the online application form
- Use the checklist to verify your documentation
- Enter the e-consular system to apply for the service
- Wait for the Consulate´s answer to book your appointment or to send your documents by mail
Important information
- The new passport may be requested at any time, and there is no need to wait for the current passport to expire.
- The child does not need to be present on the appointment.
- It is recommended that nationals of Brazil enter and leave the country with a Brazilian passport.
- It is the citizen's responsibility to check if their passport is valid. The validity of a passport is never extended.
- Denial to board due to insufficient validity does not constitute a valid reason for the Consulate to process a new emergency travel document.
Passport for minor children under 18
Required documentation
Please read carefully all instructions regarding documents required for passport applications for minor children in the following table. Passport applications with incomplete documentation will not be processed. The Consulate General may request additional documents at its discretion.

Click here to access the online application form. Then print the request form receipt generated by the system and sign it in the box provided. The form shall not be mistaken with the appointment confirmation. |

Current passport |
If the passport has expired over 2 years ago, the applicant must also submit a recent Brazilian photo ID (e.g. identity card) or a recent foreign photo ID (e.g. Australian or other foreign passport, biometric residence permit, valid Australian ID card). |

The photo must display a full frontal view of the face, with white background, and be no older than 6 months. |

Consent for passport to minor children |
Both parents must complete the consent for passport to minor children form, as well as the travel authorisation for minor children form (click here). Parents must bring the completed form to the appointment- NOT signed, the child's Brazilian birth certificate (or identity card), and also their own valid photo IDs (e.g. passport or identity card). Brazilian parents must bring the valid Brazilian photo ID. If the parents are unable to be present at the Consulate, their signatures on the for must be authenticated, in person, by a justice of the peace or notary public. |

Written travel authorisation for minor children on passport page
- Registering the travel authorisation in the child's passport is optional, whereas the consent for issuing a new passport to a minor child is mandatory.
- If the parents do not wish to have the travel authorisation registered in the child's passport, the travel authorisation form must be left blank.
- If they wish to have it written in the child's passport, they must select one of the three possible types of authorisation
- In the absence of a written authorisation in the passport, the minor child shall only be allowed to leave Brazilian territory accompanied by both parents, or upon submission of written authorisation from the absent parent (click here) or court authorisation.

Passport validity
The validity of passports for minor children is defined according to age, as shown on the table below:
