Passport for applicants aged 18 or older
TUTORIAL
- Collect all necessary documentation and complete the online application form
- Use the checklist to verify your documentation
- Enter the e-consular system to apply for the service
- Wait for the Consulate´s answer to book your appointment or to send your documents by email
Important information
- Passports will not have their validity reduced if the applicant has not registered their fingerprints at the Consulate.
- The new passport may be requested at any time, and there is no need to wait for the current passport to expire.
- It is recommended that nationals of Brazil enter and leave the country with a Brazilian passport.
- It is the citizen's responsibility to check if their passport is valid. The validity of a passport is never extended.
- Denial to board due to insufficient validity does not constitute a valid reason for the Consulate to process a new emergency travel document.

Required documentation
Please read carefully all instructions regarding documents required for passport applications in the following table. The Consulate General may request additional documents at its discretion.

Click here to access the online application form. Then print the request form receipt generated by the system and sign it in the box provided. The form shall not be mistaken for the appointment confirmation. |

Current passport |
If the passport has expired over 2 years ago, the applicant must also submit a recent Brazilian photo ID (e.g. identity card, driving licence, work permit booklet) or a recent foreign photo ID (e.g. Australian or other foreign passport, driving licence, valid Australian ID card). |

One standard-sized passport photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm) |
The photo must display a full frontal view of the face, with white background, and be no older than 6 months. |

Original Brazilian document |
If single: original Brazilian birth certificate. If married: original Brazilian marriage certificate. Those married abroad who have not registered their marriage in Brazil or at the Brazilian Consulate, click here to see instructions regarding marriage registration. If divorced: original Brazilian marriage certificate with divorce annotation. If the name has been legally altered due to a reason other than marriage or divorce: Brazilian full birth certificate ("certidão de inteiro teor") or Brazilian full marriage certificate attesting the name change. |

Electoral situation confirmation |
The electoral situation must be confirmed by one of the following documents: 1) Electoral clearance certificate, which can be obtained on the Superior Electoral Court website (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral - TSE) 2) Proof of voting or justification for absence on the two last elections (in case there have been two rounds on an election, the proof is required for each one of them) If you are 18 or older and do not have an electoral card yet, you must get it before you apply for a passport. Original military draft certificate |
Only for male applicants aged 18 to 45 years old. If you do not hold a military draft certificate, click here. |

Payment |
Application sending by mail - bank transfer receipt after receive an email from our Consulate. Application in person - debit or credit card. |
How to request

The new passport or ARB must be requested through the e-consular system only. |
Passport validity
Passport validity will follow the criteria defined below:

Passport with maximum validity of 10 years |
Only for applicants aged 18 or older |

Passport valid for 4 years |
In case the applicant does not submit the current valid passport. The validity shall be reduced to 2 years, 1 year, and 7 months for subsequent relapses |
