Visto Temporário para Estudo - Study Temporary Visa (VITEM IV)

To whom the Study Temporary Visa is applicable

The student's visa may be issued to the immigrant that intends to go to Brazil to perform any of the following activities:

1. Regular course;
2. Internship;
3. Study exchange; or
4. Research exchange. 

Required documents

• Nigerian academic documents (soft copy, previously legalized by this Consulate):
• if going for undergraduate studies/graduação: high school certificate;
• if going for master's studies/mestrado: bachelor's certificate; and
• if going for PhD's studies/doutorado: master's certificate;
• visa fee payment slip (soft copy only);
• international passport Bio-Data page (soft copy only);
• ICAO standard photograph (digital only);
• Brazilian university letter of acceptance, containing the dates of start and end of the course and the deadline for the student to arrive in Brazil (soft copy only, authenticated by a Brazilian authority);
• filled out manual visa application form (soft copy only);

• Flight reservation (soft copy only);
• Hotel reservation or housing arrangements (soft copy only);

• Birth certificate (soft copy only);
• If married: marriage certificate (soft copy only)

Proof of means of subsistence:

• letter of scholarship award (soft copy only). It must contain the monthly amount to be granted. If the scolarship is granted by a Brazilian institution, it must be authenticated by a Brazilian authority; or
• if sponsored by the work institution: letter from the institution, containing the monthly amount and the duration of the grant; or

• if being sponsored by family or by self:
• sponsor's letter of sponsorship, containing the expected monthly amount and the duration of the grant;
• sponsor's bank statement for the last three months (soft copy only).

How to apply for a Study Temporary Visa

1. ensure you have your Nigerian documents previously legalized and, hence, valid under Brazilian jurisdiction;
2. start a new visa application in the Online Visa Request Form (how to do it);
3. book your appointment for submission on: https://ec-lagos.itamaraty.gov.br;
4. wait for the validation of your application. While waiting, monitor your email inbox. You will receive the confirmation of the validation via email;
5. send your physical documents via courier (how to do it);
6. track the progress of the processing of your visa application (how to do it). Once it has been processed, you will receive your physical documents via courier in the provided return envelope.
