Visitor Visas (VIVIS) are for those traveling to Brazil for maximum stays of up to 90 days, without the intention to establish residence, for the purpose of:
- Academic research, scientific cooperation, academic extension programmes, visiting professors (VIVIS)
- Business (VIVIS)
- Journalistic coverage, news reporting, or filming (VIVIS)
- Non-corporate events (conferences, seminars, congresses, etc.) (VIVIS)
- Study, internship (VIVIS)
- Tourism and Transit (VIVIS)
- Vessel or aircraft crew members, maritime workers (VIVIS)
- Volunteer services (VIVIS)

Nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States will need a visitor visa to travel to Brazil as of April 10th, 2025. If you are a citizen of these countries, you can request an electronic visa (e-Visa) and there is no need to come to the Consulate to have the document issued. The e-Visa request can be made on this website: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com. The fee will be US$80.90 and the visa will be valid for 10 years.
IMPORTANT: Brazilian nationals are NOT eligible for eVisa or any type of visa. Brazilian nationals shall travel to Brazil with Brazilian travel documents. If you have renounced your Brazilian nationality, you are required to provide proof of renouncement of Brazilian nationality to obtain the e-visa.

- Complete the online form. There is no printable version available for download.
- Enter complete information – please note that some fields are mandatory.
- Upload the digital copies of all documents listed below on the E-Consular platform. Applications without uploaded documents will not be accepted.
- Click on the "Complete Application" button to generate the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER).
- Print and sign the RER; affix your photo on the indicated field.
- For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents.

- Provide a printed photo with your application, along with the upload of a digital copy of your photo, signature, and other supporting documents to your application process. (Please note that the upload and a hard copy of your photo are mandatory). *Photos must be printed on photo-quality paper. The photo quality paper can be either matte or glossy on a white background.

Valid Passport
|
- Original passport signed by the applicant, with at least two contiguous blank pages left.
- Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes.
- Your passport must be in good condition to be accepted as a valid document. It must not be torn, wet, damp, stained, cut, punctured, excessively dirty, etc.
- Adults must sign their passports. Passports of minors do not need to be signed. *Very few countries have passports that do not require signatures. Check your passport and ensure it is signed if there is a field for it.

Proof of Immigration Status in the United States

- Valid green card or visa. WE ONLY ACCEPT ORIGINAL GREEN CARDS, NOT COPIES, NOT EVEN NOTARIZED ONES.
- If you're an American citizen with double citizenship applying for a visa with a non-American passport, you must present proof of your American citizenship, for instance, your American passport or certificate of citizenship, apostilled.

- The Consulate General in Chicago ONLY accepts payments by Postal Money Order issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS), payable to "Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago."
- Personal checks, credit cards, or other payment forms are not accepted.
- PLEASE NOTE: The payment of the consular fee does not guarantee that the visa will be granted.

Proof of financial capacity
|
- It is necessary to prove the financial support of the applicant during the time he/she remains in Brazil.
- If the resources for this subsistence come from your own means, verification can be done by bank statements from the last 3 months, or a savings account statement, or a financial application statement, or a paycheck.
- If the resources for the applicant's subsistence come from a sponsor, verification can be done by an official letter (explained below) or statement with this information, with a notarized signature, and apostilled (or consularized), if it is a document signed outside the United States.

Letter
|
- For business, artistic, sports activities, study, internship and research or scientific cooperation, up to 90 days, letter from the employer, the host company in Brazil, the event organizers, the educational institution or the proper inviter. Printed on letterhead, with the following information:
a) The applicant's personal information, including proof of enrollment in case of study or internship;
b) Purpose of the trip (a brief description of the activities) and intended length of stay;
c) Information about the person in charge in Brazil (full name, telephone, e-mail, etc.);
d) If the applicant's travel expenses are covered, during the entire stay in Brazil, by the employer, Brazilian school or company/institution being visited, it must be stated on the letter.
Please note:
If provided by the Brazilian counterpart, the signature on the invitation letter must be certified by a notary public ("tabelião"). If provided by the American employer, the letter has to be notarized and the notary's signature has to be apostilled at the Secretary of State. If provided by a company outside Brazil or the United States, the document has to be apostilled by the appropriate government institution, or consularized, if the country is not part os the Hague Apostille.
In the case of corporate fairs and events, proof of participation/registration may be submitted instead of an invitation letter.

Round trip-ticket
|
- Present a hard copy of the purchased round-trip ticket or e-ticket bearing the applicant's name as the official passenger; or
- Signed letter from the airline or travel agent, on their letterhead, with the itinerary, the passengers' full name, flight number or cruise information, and dates of arrival and departure from Brazil, plus the payment information.
- For airline employees and their dependents: a copy of their airline I.D. card and a letter from the airline, on company letterhead, with the itinerary.

The Consular Authority determines the type of visa that applies to each case based on the information provided.
Processing time may vary and will be determined by the Consular Authority.
Additional documentation may be requested at the Consular Authority's discretion.
All visa requests shall be initiated through the E-Consular platform. Create an account and upload all necessary documents and wait for the approval.
- Once the documents are approved on the E-Consular platform, the original documentation can be sent by mail. Along with the documents, a pre-paid return envelope, exclusively from the USPS, must be included. ATTENTION: It's necessary to present ONLY original versions of the documents that were validated, such as passports, where visas are stamped, birth or marriage certificates, green cards, notarized documents, Apostilles, and watermarked FBI criminal records. Otherwise, the issuance of the visa will be held until these documents are mailed.
