Union of the Comoros

Diplomatic relations between Brazil and the Comoros were established in March 2005, on the occasion of the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting for the South American-Arab Countries Summit (ASPA). The Brazilian Embassy in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) is cumulatively responsible for Brazil's diplomatic representation in the Comoros and the Embassy of the Comoros in Washington represents the Union of the Comoros to Brazil.
In 2009, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with Comorian President Ahmed Sambi on the sidelines of the 2nd Africa-South America Summit (ASA) in Venezuela. In 2016, the Vice President of the Comoros, Djaffar Ahmed Said, visited Brazil in the context of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. In May 2023, President Lula met with Comorian President Azali Assoumani in Hiroshima on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
Brazil participated in the Comoros International Donors Conference in 2005. The Basic Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed in 2011 and is in force since 2021. In September 2023, Brazil sent a technical prospecting mission on development cooperation to the Comoros led by the director of the ABC.
Brazil provides technical cooperation to the Comoros in the area of family farming. Currently, projects are underway in the cotton sector and in the improvement of solid waste management.
In October 2024, the Comorian government announced its decision to open an embassy in Brazil.
In 2024, trade between Brazil and Comoros totaled $12.6 million (a 50% increase compared to 2023), the highest level on records, with a balance of $12.4 million for Brazil. Brazilian exports totaled $12.5 million and consisted mainly of fresh or frozen poultry meat (69%); imports were concentrated in essential oils for perfumery (99.6%).

2024 – Comoros announces decision to open an embassy in Brazil.
2023 – Meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and President Azali Assoumani, in Hiroshima, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit (May). On the occasion, Brazil announced its support for the entry of the African Union, chaired by Comoros, into the G20.
2023 – A Brazilian Cooperation Agency misson is sent to Comoros, to explore potential areas of cooperation.
2021 – Entry into force of the Technical Cooperation Agreement between Brazil and Comoros
2018 – Launching of the cooperation project to improve agricultural capacity in the Comoros, developed by the IBSA Fund, which includes Brazil, India and South Africa
2017 – Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in training diplomats
2016 – Moustadroine Abdou, Vice President of the Comoros, makes official visit to Brasília (August)
2013 – First Brazilian trade mission to the Comoros, with the participation of Petrobras, Brasil Foods, Green Best Solutions and Brazafric
2011 – Signing of a Basic Cooperation Agreement
2010 – The Brazilian Embassy in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) becomes cumulatively responsible for Brazil's relations with the Comoros, replacing the Brazilian Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa) in this function
2009 – Meeting between Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Ahmed Sambi, on the margins of the 2nd ASA Summit, in Isla Margarita (Venezuela)
2005 – Establishment of diplomatic relations, on the occasion of the Ministerial Preparatory Meeting for the ASPA Summit, in Marrakech (Morocco)
