Turkmenistan

Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Turkmenistan were established in 1996. In 2006, the opening of the Embassy of Brazil in Astana (now Nur-Sultan), the capital of Kazakhstan, provided more regular contact between authorities of the two countries, with this Embassy also being responsible for relations between Brazil and Turkmenistan. The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN serves as a non-resident Ambassador to Brazil.
In October 2015, the first Brazilian business mission to Turkmenistan took place, with participation from six Brazilian business groups and a representative from the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency – Apex-Brasil. Organized and supported by the Embassy of Brazil in Kazakhstan, this pioneering and historic initiative allowed the identification of concrete business opportunities.
Both countries are interested in developing cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, energy, livestock, as well as cotton, silk, and textile production. There are opportunities for Brazilian companies to operate in Turkmenistan in the aviation, oil and gas, construction, and food sectors.
Trade with Turkmenistan totaled $25.2 million in 2018, with Brazilian exports amounting to $19.47 million and imports at $5.71 million. Brazil sold in particular chicken, pork, and beef. The only product imported from Turkmenistan was urea.
