Republic of Uganda

Brazil and Uganda established diplomatic relations in 1970. The Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi (Kenya) is also accredited to represent Brazil to Ugandan authorities. The Embassy of Uganda in Washington, D.C. (United States) is concurrently responsible for relations with Brazil.
President Yoweri Museveni has visited Brazil three times, all in the context of major international conferences: he led the Ugandan delegation to Rio-92 (1992), the 11th UNCTAD Conference (2004), and the 5th UN-Habitat World Urban Forum (2010).
In January 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira took part in the 3rd South Summit (G77+China), held in Kampala.
In September 2011, the two countries signed the Basic Agreement on Technical and Scientific Cooperation, which entered into force in February 2023. The agreement provides the legal framework for structuring cooperation projects with Uganda, including in areas such as bioenergy and sports.
The Brazilian private sector has promoted activities in the agricultural field with Uganda, such as a visit by a Ugandan delegation to Brazil to learn about the Brazilian experience in coffee cultivation, harvesting, and processing (2017); and a visit by a Ugandan parliamentary delegation, at the invitation of the Brazilian Association of Corn Producers (ABRAMILHO – 2018). In February 2023, Uganda's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAAIF), Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, visited Brazil to learn about the national aquaculture industry. In Brasília, his visit included meetings with representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, and Fisheries.
In 2024, trade between Brazil and Uganda reached $9.6 million. Brazilian exports accounted for almost the entire amount. The main products exported by Brazil were non-electric machinery, tools and mechanical devices (37%), paper and cardboard (17%), and agricultural machinery and parts (14%). Braziian imports from Uganda amounted to $12,000, of which 95% consisted of spices.

2018 – Uganda’s Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Vincent Ssempijja, joins a ministerial mission of 14 African countries to Brazil under a trilateral cooperation project (ABC-USAID) to learn about Brazilian technologies and practices to combat fall armyworm.
2018 – Ugandan parliamentary delegation visits Brazil, at the invitation of ABRAMILHO, to learn about the Brazilian regulatory framework for genetically modified organisms in agriculture.
2017 – Uganda’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Vincent Ssempijja, leads a delegation to Brazil to learn about Brazil’s coffee cultivation, harvesting, and processing.
2014 – President Museveni meets President Dilma Rousseff in Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the African Union Summit.
2013 – Brazil donates to Uganda 2,000 tons of rice, worth $949,465, for refugee camps.
2012 – Uganda's Environment Minister, Flavia Munaaba, leads Ugandan delegation to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).
2012 – High-level Ugandan study mission visits Brazil to learn about social protection services.
