Republic of the Union of Myanmar

Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Myanmar were established in 1982. Since 1996, Myanmar has maintained a resident Embassy in Brasília. The Embassy of Brazil in Yangon was opened in 2010.
Brazil has provided cooperation to the Asian country in areas such as labor and population census, with the participation of the IBGE, and in the production of anti-venom serum, in partnership with the Butantan Institute. An agreement for partial visa exemption is in force.
In 2012, the foreign ministries of both countries established a mechanism for political consultations, aimed at holding regular meetings on issues of the bilateral, regional, and multilateral agenda.
In 2018, trade between Brazil and Myanmar totaled $46.5 million, with Brazilian exports amounting to $39.26 million — mainly soybean meal and instant coffee — and imports from Myanmar totaling $7.26 million. The country is one of the ten members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), founded in 1967. In 2018, Brazil’s trade with ASEAN countries totaled more than $19.4 billion.
