Republic of Maldives

Diplomatic relations between Brazil and the Maldives were established in 1988. Until 2010, the Brazilian Embassy in New Delhi (India) was cumulatively responsible for representing Brazil in the Maldives. Since then, this responsibility has been transferred to the Brazilian Embassy in Colombo (Sri Lanka).
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on sports cooperation in 2013. Tourism is seen as a potential area for bilateral cooperation, as the Maldives is a recognized tourist destination and receives a growing number of Brazilian tourists.
In 2021, Brazil’s trade with the Maldives reached approximately $20 million, almost entirely consisting of Brazilian meat exports.
