Brazil and Honduras established diplomatic relations in 1906. The bilateral relationship is traditionally friendly and marked by cooperation for development.

Technical cooperation is one of the main aspects of the bilateral relations. Brazil has a significant portfolio of bilateral and trilateral projects with Honduras. The 7th Meeting of the Brazil-Honduras Technical Cooperation Working Group was held in Tegucigalpa in June 2019, when five new initiatives were agreed upon on issues of public service and fire department training, irrigation and vegetable production, health inspection and development of the cold (refrigerated) food chain. Honduran authorities have expressed interest in increasing cooperation in the agricultural and livestock fields. In November 2020, a donation of $ 25,000 was made to the country for emergency attention after the passage of Hurricane Eta.

The trilateral agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations - FAO is considered particularly successful in promoting good food and nutrition security practices through the installation of cafeterias and kitchens in Honduran public schools. The partner institutions in Honduras – the Secretariats of Social Inclusion and Education - have provided valuable support for the implementation of the projects.

The Honduran Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lisandro Rosales, held a bilateral meeting with Minister Ernesto Araújo in Brasilia, on November 7,  2019, on the margins of the 16th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Lima Group.

In February 2020,  Brazil’s Minister of  Foreign Affairs visited Tegucigalpa, where he met with the Honduran Foreign Minister. It was the first visit of a Brazilian Foreign Minister to the country since 1971. In addition to topics of interest in bilateral cooperation (agriculture, energy, biofuels and aircraft exchange), the two ministers discussed aspects of the regional agenda.

In 2019, the bilateral trade flow totaled $ 119.9 million. Brazilian exports  totaled $ 108 million, while Brazilian imports totaled $ 11.9 million. The bilateral balance registered a surplus for Brazil of $ 96,1 million.
