Republic of Djibouti
Brazil and Djibouti established diplomatic relations in October 1996. In June 2010, the Brazilian Embassy in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) became cumulatively responsible for representing Brazil before the Djiboutian authorities. The Embassy of Djibouti in Havana cumulatively represents the country in Brazil.
In May 2005, the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, visited Brazil to attend the South America-Arab Countries Summit, when he met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In June 2012, then Prime Minister Dileita Mohamed Dileita visited Brazil to participate in Rio+20.
In 2012, a Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed between Brazil and Djibouti, the only international act between the two countries to date. The priorities highlighted by the Djiboutian authorities for cooperation focus on the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, environment, health, education, scientific research (in partnership with the Djibouti Center for Studies and Research, CERD) and social development (in partnership with the Djiboutian Agency for Social Development, ADDS).
A cooperation project is currently underway in the cotton sector. In 2024, Brazil made a humanitarian donation of medicines to Djibouti estimated at $1.5 million.
In the 1980s, a Brazilian company built the port of Doraleh, the first in Djibouti with a draft deep enough to receive any type of vessel, as well as a container terminal in the same port in the 2000s.
In 2024, trade between Brazil and Djibouti reached approximately $67.8 million, with Brazilian exports accounting for the total amount. The main products exported by Brazil were sugar (90%) and poultry meat (6%).

2012 Signing of the Technical Cooperation Agreement at the Djiboutian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the presentation of letters of credence of the non-resident ambassador of Brazil
2011 Djibouti is included in the list of beneficiaries of Law 12.429, which regulates the donation of public food stocks by the Brazilian Government
2010 The Brazilian Embassy in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) replaces the Brazilian Embassy in Nairobi (Kenya) in the function of cumulatively representing Brazil before the Djiboutian authorities
2005 Djibouti's President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, visits Brazil to attend the 1st South America-Arab Countries Summit
2000’s - A Brazilian company builds a container terminal in the port of Doraleh
1980’s - A Brazilian company builds the port of Doraleh in Djibouti
