Principality of Monaco

Brazil and Monaco established consular relations in 1911, the year that marks the beginning of bilateral activities in the areas of trade and justice.

The first decades of the relationship were characterized by the absence of regular political contacts.

In 2010 diplomatic relations were established between the two countries and the Brazilian Embassy in Paris began to represent the country before the Monegasque government. Since then, the two countries have endeavored to explore the potential for cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, judicial, and environmental areas. Monaco seeks to maintain an active role in the environmental area. Prince Albert II is dedicated to themes related to the marine environment and oceans and was the first head of State to confirm his presence at the Rio+20 Conference. Brazil has received Monegasque support for several candidacies to international organizations (International Court of Justice, United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, and the Directorate General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, among others).

According to the last census (2016), 160 Brazilians lived in Monaco.

2010 – Establishment of diplomatic relations. The Embassy of Brazil in Paris becomes concurrently accredited to the Principality
