Mongolia

Brazil and Mongolia established diplomatic relations in 1987. The Embassy of Brazil in Beijing (China) is concurrently responsible for representing Brazil to Mongolia. Brazil has maintained an honorary consulate in Ulaanbaatar since 2007, and Mongolia has an honorary consul in São Paulo since 2005.
In 2007, a Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of a Regular Mechanism for Political Consultations was signed, and the first meeting under this mechanism was held. The fifth session took place in Ulaanbaatar in September 2018. Following the political consultation meetings, four agreements were signed in 2015 in the areas of education, consular affairs, sports, and between diplomatic academies.
Despite challenging climatic conditions, Mongolia has significant potential for agricultural and livestock development, creating opportunities for cooperation with Brazil. In October 2011, a Memorandum of Understanding on Agriculture and Agri-food was signed between Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) and Mongolia’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
Trade between the two countries totaled $4.5 million in 2018, with Brazilian exports amounting to $ 4.25 million and imports of $ 250,000. Brazil’s main exports to Mongolia included tires, manufactured tobacco, sweets, and drilling machinery. Mongolia’s sales to Brazil were concentrated in fertilizers.
