Kingdom of Thailand

Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Thailand were established in 1959. The Brazilian Embassy in Bangkok was opened in the same year, and the Thai Embassy in Brasília in 1964.
Bilateral agreements are in force in the areas of scientific cooperation; technical cooperation; sanitary and phytosanitary measures; partial visa exemption; air services; and trade. Brazil and Thailand maintain two mechanisms for regular political dialogue: the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation and the Political Consultations.
The bilateral economic relationship has developed in a way that includes, beyond trade, elements such as reciprocal investments. Brazilian investments in Thailand are present in the food and agricultural equipment sectors, as well as in oil and gas. Thai investments in Brazil focus on tourism, oil and gas, and electronics sectors.
In 2018, Thailand was Brazil’s 7th largest trading partner in Asia, with bilateral trade reaching $3.5 billion, of which $1.9 billion corresponded to Brazilian exports and $1.6 billion to imports from Thailand. The country is one of the ten members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), founded in 1967. In 2018, Brazil’s trade with ASEAN countries totaled more than $19.4 billion.
