Relations between Brazil and Norway are cordial, based on shared values and characterized by mutual respect. In the past years, contact between governments, companies, and individuals from both countries have intensified, adding dynamism to the bilateral relations.

Brazil and Norway have partnerships in the areas of energy, science, technology, education, and environment. A number of agreements in force establish bilateral initiatives in matters such as research and development in oil and gas; aquaculture and fishing resources; economic cooperation; taxation; cooperation among customs administrations; and academic mobility.

Norway has important investments in Brazil. The main sectors in which Norwegian companies operate in Brazil are oil and gas, production of fertilizers, shipbuilding, and aluminum.

In 2011 Brazil and Norway established the Political Consultation Mechanism, with the first political consultation meeting being held in Brasilia. In the same year, the Norwegian government launched the "Brazil Strategy", with guidelines for the bilateral relations in four priority areas: trade and investment; climate, environment and sustainable development; global challenges; knowledge and social development. The other editions of the Political Consultation Mechanism were held in 2012, 2015 and 2017.

In 2019 the trade flow between the two countries was $ 1.67 billion. Brazil exported $1.069 billion and imported $ 600 million. Among the main items exported are alumina, soy, coffee and oil. Most of the imports are compost and fertilizers, fish, natural gas, oil and floating platforms. Between January and September 2020, the trade flow was stable (+0.3%) compared to the same period in 2019, with an increase in imports (+7%) and a drop in exports (-3.9%).

The Brazilian community in Norway is estimated at 7,690 nationals. After Oslo, Bergen is the city with the largest number of Brazilians. Besides the Embassy in Oslo, there are Honorary Consulates in Bergen, Stavanger, Tromsø and Tromdheim.
