Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Pakistan were established in 1948. The Embassy of Brazil n Karachi was opened in 1952. In the same year, Pakistan established its Embassy in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil and Pakistan hold regular political consultations, during which they discuss bilateral initiatives and exchange views on topics of global interest. The fifth and most recent of these meetings was held in Islamabad in 2017. The two countries traditionally maintain a fluid dialogue in multilateral economic forums, especially regarding agriculture.
Trade with Brazil in 2018 totaled $538.76 million, with Brazilian exports amounting to $471.71 million and imports of $32.05 million. The main products exported were soybean, cotton, and soybean oil. Leading imports from Pakistan to Brazil include medical, dental, and veterinary instruments and devices, as well as cotton fabrics.
Technical cooperation is one of the main pillars of bilateral relations. A Basic Technical Cooperation Agreement between the two countries was signed in August 2018. The defense sector is also an important field of cooperation.
In 2012, Pakistan was included in the Undergraduate Student Exchange Program (PEC-G) and the Graduate Student Exchange Program (PEC-PG), enabling Pakistani students to access undergraduate placements and graduate scholarships at Brazil’s most prestigious universities.
