State Visit of President Lula to China – Beijing, May 12 and 13, 2025

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will pay a State visit to the People’s Republic of China on 12 and 13 May 2025, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. In addition to the bilateral programme, President Lula will take part, on 13 May, in the Fourth Forum of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) – China, in Beijing.

This will be President Lula’s fourth State visit to China and the first since bilateral relations were elevated, in November 2024, to the level of a Brazil-China Community of Shared Future for a Fairer World and a More Sustainable Planet. It will also mark the third meeting between the two presidents since 2023.

Brazil and China share interests and display convergences on regional and multilateral issues within the United Nations, the WTO, the G20 and BRICS. The bilateral relationship enjoys a high degree of institutionalisation, is mutually beneficial and contributes to global stability.

The visit will provide an opportunity to deliver concrete results of multidimensional Sino-Brazilian cooperation, including through synergies between their respective development policies and investment programmes, with a focus on priority sectors such as finance, infrastructure, sustainable development, food security, energy transition, science, technology and innovation.

China has been Brazil’s largest trading partner since 2009 and ranks among the principal sources of foreign investment in the country. In 2024, bilateral trade reached a historic record of USD 158 billion. These significant trade flows and the growing number of joint initiatives reflect the robustness and strategic importance of the bilateral relationship.
