Situation in Western Sahara

The Brazilian government follows with concern the developments in the Western Sahara buffer zone over the past days. In the interest of peace and prosperity in the region, Brazil hopes that traffic and commercial flows in the Guerguerat crossing will be unimpededly secured.
While reaffirming its support for the ongoing process within the United Nations with a view to a fair and mutually acceptable solution for determining the final status of the Western Sahara territory, the Brazilian government rejects the use of violence and urges respect for the ceasefire that has been in effect since 1991.
