The Brazilian government follows with concern the rising tensions in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where violence have escalated over the course of August.
The Brazilian government urges all parties to the conflict in eastern DRC to respect human rights and the International Humanitariam Law. In this regard, it welcomes the creation of an interministerial commission on September 1 to investigate the events that took place in Goma on August 30, resulting in a high number of casualties.
Brazil expresses its solidarity with the DRC people and conveys its condolences to the families of the victims. It also reaffirms its support for international and regional efforts to stabilize eastern DRC.
