PRESS RELEASE NO. 107
Signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Brazilian Federal Police and EUROPOL
The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, and the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, signed a cooperation agreement on Wednesday (5) between the Brazilian Federal Police (PF) and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (EUROPOL). The ceremony took place in Brussels, Belgium.
The agreement lays the groundwork for even stronger cooperation between the European Union and Brazil in the fight against crime, while ensuring the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, with a particular focus on the right to privacy and the protection of personal data. This instrument will deepen operational cooperation between the PF and EUROPOL, bolstering law enforcement authorities’ capacity on both sides to collaborate through data sharing and joint investigations of serious crimes such as drug trafficking, environmental crimes, human trafficking, and child sexual abuse.
Brazil is among the first countries to conclude such an agreement with the European Union, reflecting the excellent level of bilateral cooperation in combating organized crime and enhancing public security.
