The Brazilian government has received with great satisfaction the announcement made today by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) regarding the inclusion of the cities of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Penedo (AL) in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
This network, composed of 350 cities in more than a hundred countries, aims to recognize municipalities that promote culture and creativity as part of their development strategies and employ innovative practices in people-centered urban planning.
Rio de Janeiro will join the network in the creative field of literature, while Penedo will represent the creative field of cinema. The two cities join twelve other Brazilian municipalities representing the country in the areas of gastronomy, media arts, design, music, and crafts.
The selection of Rio de Janeiro and Penedo by UNESCO reaffirms Brazil's commitment to strengthening culture and recognizing it as a global public good and a source of development.
