PRESS RELEASE N. 125
Return of Brazil to UNASUR
The Brazilian government took the legal steps, on April 6th, for the country's return to the Constitutive Treaty of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUL).
With this measure, Brazil ratifies its commitment to the consolidation of South America as an area of peace and cooperation, in line with the constitutional precept of promoting regional integration.
The revitalization and updating of UNASUL will be a process of collective construction, to be carried out through dialogue among all countries in the region.
Brazil, together with its regional partners, will work for the prompt resumption of South American cooperation initiatives, with the objective of generating tangible results in areas of shared interest, such as health, infrastructure, the fight against transnational illicit traffic and defense, among others.
