PRESS RELEASE NO. 134
Reelection of Dilma Rousseff as President of the New Development Bank (NDB)
The Brazilian government congratulates former President Dilma Rousseff on her unanimous reelection as President of the New Development Bank (NDB). Her second term will last five years, starting on July 7.
The NDB, headquartered in Shanghai, was created during the BRICS Summit in Fortaleza in 2014 and established in 2015. During this period, the NDB has approved the equivalent of USD 39 billion to finance 120 projects in member countries, covering areas such as clean energy and energy efficiency, transport infrastructure, water and sanitation, digital infrastructure, environmental protection, and social infrastructure.
Brazil, along with the other founding members, holds approximately 19% of the NDB’s shares, representing the country's largest stake in multilateral development banks. This year, the NDB’s annual meeting is expected to be held in Brazil, coinciding with the Brazilian presidency of BRICS.
Under Dilma Rousseff’s administration, the NDB consolidates its role as a bank of the Global South and as an important source of financing for the promotion of sustainable development.
