PRESS RELEASE N. 481
Recommendation for the appointment of Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior Matter as Director-General of the OPCW
The 110th Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has adopted by consensus the recommendation for the appointment of Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior Matter (Switzerland) as Director-General of the Organization during the 30th session of the Conference of the States Parties, to be held in The Hague from 24 to 28 November 2025. Should the Conference confirm the appointment, the new Director-General’s mandate will begin on 25 July 2026 and be concluded on 24 July 2030.
The Government of Brazil congratulates Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior Matter and the Helvetic Confederation on this achievement and expresses its great satisfaction that the highest position within the OPCW Secretariat will be held by a woman for the first time.
Brazil believes that the incoming Director-General will perform her duties with a commitment to safeguarding the independence, technical excellence, transparency, and impartiality of the Organization — fundamental values to advancing the elimination of chemical weapons.
