President Dilma Rousseff visits the Republic of Bulgaria – Sofia, October 5-6, 2011
President Dilma Rousseff will make an official visit to the Republic of Bulgaria on October 5 and 6, when she will hold meetings with President Georgi Parvanov and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
The President will address bilateral cooperation on education, information technology, energy and transportation. The visit also aims at fostering cooperation on sports, with a view to the 2016 Olympic Games, as well as identifying the potential for Brazilian investments in Bulgaria.
Accompanying the Brazilian delegation are business representatives from the energy, aviation, infrastructure and agribusiness sectors, who will take part in a conference on the Brazilian experience in strategic areas for sustainable development. Furthermore, they will address ways to improve bilateral exchange. Trade flow with Bulgaria was US$ 147 million in 2010. This year, by August, exchanges were at US$ 113 million.
Brazil and Bulgaria established diplomatic relations in 1961, at in that same year the first Brazilian legation was established in Sofia – it was upgraded to Embassy status in 1974. The relations between the two countries have increased recently due to an exchange of high level visits. President Dilma Rousseff’s trip will be the first by a Brazilian Head of State to the country.
