PRESS RELEASE N. 280
Passing of King Harald V of Norway
The Brazilian government received with great sorrow the news of the passing of King Harald V of Norway.
Throughout his reign, Harald V worked to further strengthen Brazil-Norway relations, having visited the country on several occasions. In 2003, he paid a State visit to Brazil, accompanied by an important business delegation. Ten years later, he spent four days in a Yanomami village in the Amazon.
The Norwegian monarch's strong interest in nature and environmental protection is also reflected in the bilateral relations between Brazil and Norway. The Kingdom of Norway is the main donor to the Amazon Fund and, together with Brazil, is part of the Steering Committee of the Tropical Forests Forever Fund (TFFF), conceived to support tropical forest conservation, officially launched during COP30 in Belém.
The Brazilian government extends its deepest condolences to the Norwegian royal family, in the person of King Haakon VIII, as well as to the Norwegian government and people.
