Passing of economist Ignacy Sachs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its condolences for the passing of economist Ignacy Sachs, which occurred on August 2, in Paris.
Ignacy Sachs was born in Poland in 1927 and settled later in France. In 1941, he sought refuge in Brazil, where he began his studies in Economics.
Sachs was a friend to three generations of Brazilian economists, scientists, and diplomats. His studies on environmental economics and sustainable development significantly influenced the Stockholm Conference in 1972 and the Rio Conference in 1992. He also actively participated in the Dialogues for Sustainable Development of the Rio+20 Conference in 2012.
Ignacy Sachs leaves an invaluable contribution to the fields of development and the environment, which will serve as a reference for generations to come.
