Press Release n.87
Opening of the Vice Consulate in Orlando
On June 11, President Jair Bolsonaro will inaugurate the Vice Consulate of Brazil in Orlando.
The new consular office is subordinate to the Consulate General in Miami and will have exclusively consular functions, to assist Brazilians residing there and those passing by. It is estimated that around 475,000 Brazilians live in Florida. More than 180,000 of these settled in the regions that the new consular post will primarily serve.
The Vice Consulate in Orlando will bring key consular services such as travel documents, civil registrations, and powers of attorney closer to Brazilian citizens. It will also increase the provision of emergency consular assistance to the hundreds of thousands of Brazilian tourists who visit the Orlando area every year.
In the first phase, the Vice Consulate will process life certificates, birth registration, authorization to return to Brazil, authorization for a minor to travel, and authorization for granting passports to minors. In parallel, these and all other consular services continue to be normally provided by the Consulate General in Miami (http://miami.itamaraty.gov.br/pt-br/). The Vice Consulate in Orlando will gradually increase the number and scope of its services (https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/vice-consulado-orlando).
The Vice Consulate in Orlando is the first of the five new consulates created in January to better serve Brazilians abroad to be inaugurated. The other four consular offices yet to be opened are the Consulates-General in Marseille (France), Edinburgh (United Kingdom) and Chengdu (China), and the Vice-Consulate in Cusco (Peru).
