Opening of live cattle market in Russia and Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member countries - Joint statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
On Tuesday, September 19, Brazil gained access to five new international markets for the export of live cattle: Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, all of which are members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). Over the past five years, these countries have imported more than $200 million worth of live cattle annually from other suppliers.
The authorization for these imports was granted during a mission by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) to Moscow, with the support of the Brazilian Embassy. During this mission, MAPA representatives met with Sergey Dankvert, the head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation, to deliver the International Zoosanitary Certificate (CZI).
In 2022, Brazil exported just over $1.8 billion worth of agribusiness products to the EEU, with the main exports including soybeans (48%), raw sugar (16%), beef (9%), and green coffee (7%).
The opening of these new markets is the result of the collaborative efforts of MAPA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
