Note on the passing of Ambassdor Luis María Ramírez Boettner

It is with deep sorrow that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has learned of the passing of Ambassador Luis María Ramírez Boettner today, July 25, in Asunción.

During his distinguished diplomatic career, Ambassador Boettner held, among other important positions, the post of representative of the United Nations in Brazil  from 1972 to 1980. He was Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay to Brazil between 1992 and 1993 and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay from 1993 to 1996. As the Foreign Minister of President Juan Carlos Wasmosy, Ambasasdor Ramírez Boettner acted as Paraguay's negotiator of the Ouro Preto Protocol (1994), which established the institutional structure of Mercosur.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its condolences to the Government of Paraguay and its deepest sympathies to the family of Ambassador Luis María Ramírez Boettner.
